A Brief Description of the Psychological Assessment Process
The goal of a psychological assessment is to answer questions concerning issues related to personality, cognitive, intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioural functioning. This is generally accomplished through standardized testing (e.g., intelligence, academic, symptom profiles, interest and personality tests), informal testing, clinical interviews, questionnaires, observations and review of previous records or reports. Each assessment typically involves a few visits to my office for a background interview, individual assessment sessions, and a feedback interview. Test results will be interpreted according to evidence based research and guidelines from the scientific and professional literature. The outcome of an assessment will include a detailed description of findings in the areas assessed, a diagnosis if appropriate, as well as recommendations. Feedback is provided in a face-to-face meeting and in the form of a written report.
